How We Research

We publish practical detection guidance for travelers and renters. This page explains how we evaluate claims, tools, and product picks before they appear in our guides.

Our Method

We prioritize repeatable detection methods first: visual inspection, lens reflection checks, infrared scans, and network checks. Product recommendations are secondary and only included when they improve real-world detection coverage.

How We Evaluate Products

  • Coverage: can the tool detect multiple camera types (wireless and non-wireless scenarios)?
  • Signal quality: does it reduce false positives in normal hotel/Airbnb environments?
  • Usability: can a non-technical traveler use it quickly under stress?
  • Portability: battery life, size, charging, and travel practicality.
  • Value: performance relative to price and replacement alternatives.

Editorial Standards

  • We favor verifiable sources and cite known limitations when evidence is mixed.
  • We avoid absolute claims like “detects every camera” without clear constraints.
  • We update guides when policy or legal context changes.
  • We remove or revise picks that no longer meet quality thresholds.
